Personality;
Shadow’s outer appearance and forever imposed glare give a great deal of his personality away. He’s a loner with a very dark (hah) outlook on the world, he’s smug, stubborn, and even somewhat sarcastic when the mood strikes him. A rather egocentric fellow, Shadow often shows little to zero concern for anything that doesn’t involve him. He constantly calls himself the Ultimate Lifeform, belittling most everyone he meets. He continuously distances himself from even those he works with, preferring to be alone to his thoughts. Though soft-spoken and reserved, he never bluffs; if he makes a threat, he has every intention of carrying it out. Shadow also a strong sense of identity, as evidenced when he states to Rouge after being told that he isn't the Ultimate Lifeform due to a lab report that even if his memories were fake, he is still Shadow the Hedgehog. Because of his strong sense of identity, he is possesses a strong will, making him very rarely susceptible to being manipulated by other forces.

He suffers from deep levels of mental instability, bordering on mild schizophrenia, stemming partly from post traumatic stress disorder from the attack on ARK and partly from modifications to his memory by Gerald Robotnik. He is often seen hallucinating visions of Maria to the point of distraction, only to bounce back with disturbingly threatening speeches.

Despite this, Shadow isn’t a complete madman and does actually possess a good heart. Fifty years ago, he was really good friends with Maria, and they both spoke of their dreams to see the world below and protect all the good people there. Shadow shared a dream with the only friend he had, and she was taken away from him by the same people they wanted to protect. He felt betrayed and wanted revenge, hence his decision to activate to ARK Canon when released years later. He is very protective of his teammates, even risking his life to save Rouge when she was trapped in a GUN vault. However, Shadow doesn’t exactly respond well to kindness or gratitude. He’ll more likely brush it off and shove it away.
